Remigio “Remmy” Acevedo’s path in healthcare has been shaped by a commitment to serving vulnerable communities and delivering equitable, patient-centered care. His nursing career began at Parkland Health, one of the nation’s largest safety-net hospitals, where he worked as a Surgical-Trauma ICU nurse for 8 years, caring for some of the most vulnerable and medically complex patients. Seeing firsthand how quickly patients can become ill when preventive care is out of reach strengthened his passion for primary care and inspired him to pursue advanced practice nursing. With a passion for lifelong learning, he earned degrees in Nutritional Science and Spanish from Texas A&M University before completing his nursing degree at Baylor University. Early in his career, he worked as a WIC nutritionist, providing nutritional education and comprehensive breastfeeding support. He later earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice from UTHealth Science Center at Houston. His clinical training taught him the importance of meeting every patient as an individual with unique challenges, goals, and needs. Recognized for his attention to detail, clinical judgment, and calm demeanor during critical situations, he has been honored in D Magazine’s Excellence in Nursing and recognized with the prestigious DFW Great 100 Nurses award. Fluent in Spanish, he prioritizes culturally centered care, ensuring patients feel heard, respected, and empowered, and believes that “meaningful care starts with understanding the person and their goals, not just the diagnosis.” He strives to empower patients to take an active role in their health while building long-term, trusting relationships. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and exploring nature, as well as spending quality time with his wife, family, and their two cats, Bruno and Estefano.
