Dr. Matos grew up and studied medicine in Cuba. He completed his Family Medicine Residency in Havana in 1995. He escaped Cuba in 1996 and practiced medicine in Belize, including teaching at the medical school there. He has years of experience practicing medicine in hospitals, clinics, and even jungle settings in Belize. If you are lucky, he will tell you some stories of his years doctoring there! Dr. Matos began practicing medicine in the United States in 2016 and joined the Free Market Physician staff as an Assistant Physician in 2018. Dr. Matos is known as a passionate teacher in the Free Market Physician clinics. He keeps a whiteboard in his exam rooms to teach his patients about disease processes and treatments. We joke that he has trouble talking without a whiteboard marker in his hand! Dr. Matos is always an outside-of-the-box thinker. Although he is traditionally-trained, he is always on the lookout for alternative therapies including herbal and other therapies. His practice involves standard therapies and an increasing focus on wellness and functional medicine. He and his wife enjoy rural life in SW Missouri, including raising chickens and livestock.
